Robert Zubrin

I think that this guy, Robert Zubrin, made a really good analogy. Mars does seem to really compare to America, the Moon to Greenland, and the Main Belt astroids to the West Indies. Just like all of the challenges that the settlers faced when coming to America, we are going to face while and when we go to Mars. People died while moving to the American frontier, so we must be prepared for the worst and do our best to avoid anyone getting hurt (or something of that nature). For us this would mean that we should look at how earlier settlers handled moving and ajusting to America, as well as what they took with them, what problems they faced, and look at how they could have prevented it. By doing this we'll probably save ourselves some of the trouble on the trip to Mars. We will be more prepared and ready. But of course we never know what the unknown may throw our way.

  1. I think that Robert Zubrin did make a really cool analogy, as Rebekah said. The analogy also works in the fact that it took forever to get to America to Europe and it takes forever to get to Mars from Earth. So, get ready for some new epically fast trasportation vechile. Another thing I liked was when he said what the true value of America was and how he was comparing it to Mars. This guy obvisouly thinks that Mars has loads of potential. He believes that Mars could become the new America of the next generation. Mars could become the most powerful nation, not in our world, but in our solar system. And I loved how Rebekah talked about people dying when going to America. Good Confidence Booster!!!

  2. I agree with both of you about the great anology.I didn't really think of colonizing mars/moon like that until i read the artical and it helps show how past generations went at discovering new territory like we are. Knowing this we could learn from their mistakes and success's.This artical also makes me think of how excited england was when colonizing america, how excited we are preparing to colonize mars, and how this seems like a pattern that will continue for many generations and makes me wonder what the next step will be.
